Several reports have been circulating on social media claiming that IRCTC has revised the booking timings for Tatkal and Premium Tatkal tickets starting April 15. Here’s a fact check on those claims!

Users flooded social media with posts claiming that Tatkal booking timings—particularly for Premium Tatkal—would change starting April 15.
Did IRCTC Change Tatkal Timings?
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) took to social media to clarify that the posts about changes in Tatkal and Premium Tatkal booking timings are fake. IRCTC confirmed that there have been no changes to the booking schedule for these services as of now. IRCTC said on X, “Some information is circulating on social media platforms mentioning different timings for Tatkal and Premium Tatkal tickets. There is no such change in timing currently proposed in the Tatkal or Premium Tatkal booking timing for AC or Non-AC classes.” It also added, “Permitted booking timing for agents also remains unchanged.”
Further clarifying, IRCTC stated, “E-tickets for Tatkal can be booked for selective trains one day in advance, excluding the day of the journey from the train’s originating station.”
What Are The Timings For Tatkal And Premium Tatkal Booking?
According to the IRCTC, “the booking timing will be the same, and tickets can be booked on the opening day from 10:00 hrs for AC class (2A/3A/CC/EC/3E) and at 11:00 hrs for Non-AC (SL/FC/2S).”
IRCTC also confirmed, “If a train is scheduled to depart from the originating station on August 2, Tatkal booking for AC classes will begin at 10:00 AM, while booking for Non-AC classes will start at 11:00 AM on August 1.” The extra charges are levied at 10% of the basic fare for second class and 30% for all other classes, subject to minimum and maximum limits. It’s important to note that confirmed Tatkal tickets are non-refundable.
IRCTC stated that the “Tatkal booking facility offers confirmed or waitlisted tickets against the Tatkal quota in any class except 1AC for travel between source/remote stations having a Tatkal quota to the destination.”
How Many Tickets Can Be Booked Under A PNR?
A maximum of four passengers can be booked under one PNR on a Tatkal e-ticket. ITCTC said that tatkal charges for passengers are in addition to normal tickets. Furthermore, Passenger details will be auto-filled for registered users. Payment timeout extended to 5 minutes which was 3 minutes before. Captcha process simplified with unified login across app and website. However, Only 4 passengers per Tatkal PNR. No fare concessions allowed under Tatkal quota.
