Gurugram: A shocking incident unfolded recently at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital, where a technician was arrested on Friday for the alleged sexual assault of an air hostess. He reportedly committed ‘digital rape’ on a 26-year-old flight steward while she was on a ventilator in the multispecialty hospital on April 6.

According to reports, the accused, identified as 25-year-old Deepak, had watched pornographic videos both before and after committing the crime. Gurugram Police said that the accused was a native of Muzaffarpur district in Bihar. He joined Medanta 5 months ago after completing his bachelor’s in Operation Theatre Technology and committed ‘digital rape’ on the patient while on duty.

What Is ‘Digital Rape’?

‘Digital Rape’ refers to non-consensual penetration of an individual’s private parts using toes or fingers. The word, digital doesn’t refer to technology here, but rather digits of the hand or foot. The term ‘digital’ comes from the Latin word digitus, in this context. It means finger.

Police Examine 800 CCTV Cameras…

A special investigation team constituted in the matter under the supervision of DCP (headquarters), Dr Arpit Jain, arrested him on Friday. Meanwhile, the police said that he was identified after reviewing 800 CCTV cameras, questioning medical staff and doctors at the hospital.

Victim Had Come To Gurugram For Training

The victim, who hails from West Bengal, had come to Gurugram on March 31 for training with the airline. She said that she was admitted to the Hospital on April 5 after she fell ill. The following day, on April 6, a man committed ‘digital rape’ on her while she was in the ICU. She alleged that two other nurses were present at the scene, but they did nothing to stop him, reports added.

What Happened That Day?

The girl said that she was in a semi-conscious state when she heard a man’s voice, asking the nurse about her waistband size. Shortly after, he insisted on checking it himself. She noted that he had put his hand under her bedsheet from the right side.
