In a shocking incident, a Delhi judge was threatened by a convict in a six-year-old check bounce case. The convict threatened the judge in open court.
Convict threatened Delhi judge
According to an NDTV report, the convict said, “Tu cheez kya hai..tu bahar mil Dekhte hai kaise zinda ghar Jati hai…(Meet outside, and we’ll see if you make it home alive).” He threatened when the judge, Shivangi Mangla passed the order in Delhi’s Dwarka court. The order was passed on April 2.
Convict’s lawyer demanded resignation
The convict and his lawyer demanded a resignation from the judge. They threatened that they would lodge a complaint against her and compel her to step down.
‘Mentally and physically harassed me’
The judge said in her order that the convict had “mentally and physically harassed her and forced her to let off the accused other wise they will complain about her.”
The Delhi Judge has forwarded the matter to the session judge for further proceedings. She stated that the National Commission For Women should also take action on the matter.
The court convicted the accused to 22 months in jail and slapped a fine of Rs 6.65 lakh.
Lawyers stage protest against cop
A large group of lawyers from the Himachal Pradesh High Court staged a protest on Monday outside the Chhota Shimla (PS East), demanding immediate action against a police constable accused of assaulting a local lawyer.
The protesting lawyers accused the police of shielding their own by filing serious counter-allegations against the lawyer instead of taking impartial action.
“We don’t come out on the streets unless the issue is grave; this is about police insensitivity and misuse of power,” said Senior Advocate Sanjeev Bhushan of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The incident in question reportedly occurred about a week ago, when a local advocate tried to contact the police during a dispute. According to the lawyers, not only did the police refuse to respond appropriately, but the constable also physically assaulted the advocate. Shockingly, instead of registering a case against the constable, the police filed a First Information Report (FIR) with serious charges against the lawyer himself.
