A Canadian national was detained by the police after claiming he was carrying a bomb aboard a Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight at Varanasi airport.

The incident took place on April 26, according to a PTI report. The police officials were interrogating the Canadian national.
Crew members informed ATC
The airport director said a complete inspection was conducted and no explosive material was found on the aircraft. The director said the IndiGo crew swiftly informed the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) about the passenger’s claims.
The officials said a complete search was conducted and the flight was grounded at the bay. The flight took off after the security agencies gave its clearance.
Akash Patel, DCP Gomti zone, Varanasi said, ” Yesterday, on 26th April, a passenger in the IndiGo flight which took off from Varanasi, said that there was bomb inside the flight. After that, emergency protocols were initiated and flight was made to land at Varanasi airport. The plane and the luggage of the passengers were checked. Later, it was found out that the information was hoax. The passenger Nishant, who gave this information, a citizen of Canada, was handed over to the Police. All the security agencies interrogated him, and it was revealed that he had given false information to delay the airport operations. FIR is being registered against him under the appropriate sections, Canada High Comission will also be informed”

IndiGo Airlines issued a travel advisory
On April 25, IndiGo Airlines issued a travel advisory for commuters and offered them rescheduling and refunds after Pakistan closed its airspace for Indian flights.
IndiGo Airlines said that they are “diligently” assessing the situation and working on the best alternatives for the customers, following the closure of airspace.
“Due to airspace closure by Pakistan, a few of our international flights continue to be impacted. Our teams are working diligently to assess the situation and assist impacted customers with the best possible alternatives,” IndiGo airlines stated in the travel advisory.
“This sudden announcement is beyond our control and we sincerely regret the disruption it may have caused to your travel plans. If your flight is impacted, we encourage you to visit our website to explore flexible rebooking options or claim a refund as per your preference,” they added.
