Court Extends 26/11 Attacks Mastermind Tahawwur Rana’s NIA Custody By 12 Days News24 –

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) got 12 more days of custody of Mumbai 26/11 mastermind Tahawwur Hussain Rana, officials said on Monday.

NIA told in court that Rana was not only the mastermind of the Mumbai 26/11 attack, but he even planned to attack many Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Jaipur in a joint operation with Lashkar-e-Taiba (Pakistani jihadist organisation). NIA produced Rana before the special NIA judge Chander Jit Singh after the expiry of 18-day custody.

Senior counsel Dayan Krishnan and special public prosecutor Narender Mann, who represented the NIA in an in-chamber procedure, submitted arguments in favour of custody. Rana is represented by Advocate Piyush Sachdeva of the Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in this matter.

In order, the judge asked the NIA to undertake a medical assessment of Rana every 24 hours and to enable him to speak with his lawyer on alternate days. The judge allowed Rana to use just a “soft-tip pen” and meet with his lawyer in the presence of NIA officers who would be out of earshot.
