In a shocking revelation, exclusive details from an ongoing investigation into the tragic attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists in Kashmir, have come to light. Sources indicate that the assailants traversed the rugged terrain from the Hapat Naar area near Pahalgam, trekking for approximately 4-5 hours through dense forests to reach the picturesque Baisaran Valley, where they executed their deadly plan.
Reports suggest that the terrorists had been active in the forested regions between Kokernag and Hapat Naar for several months prior to the assault. It is believed that they established a temporary base in Hapat Naar and meticulously timed their attack for when tourist traffic peaked, striking around 2:30 PM when security presence appeared minimal.
The attack involved four individuals: three Pakistani terrorists and one local terrorist, identified as either Adil Thokar or Zakir Ganaie. Thokar, who joined Hizbul Mujahideen in 2018, underwent advanced training with Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan before returning to the valley in 2024. Ganaie, also linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, is suspected of acting as a guide for the attackers.
Forensic investigations confirm that the terrorists were armed with AK-47 and M4 assault rifles, firing an estimated 500 to 600 rounds during the brutal attack. The use of high-tech communication devices has also been uncovered, with operatives maintaining contact with handlers across the Line of Control.
In response to this heinous act, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has ramped up its efforts, deploying teams to the site under the directive of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. These officials are diligently working alongside forensic experts to gather evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events, aiming to unravel the intricate web of terror behind one of Kashmir’s deadliest attacks in recent years.
On the other hand Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operation Group along with Army’s elite Para Commandos have intensified their operation against terrorists involved in the heinous act, sources said that special forces team have cornered the terrorist in a narrow area and soon the terrorists will be eliminated.
