In Bengaluru’s IT Park, a man on a two-wheeler had molested a woman. In an interview with NDTV on Friday, the woman said that respect for people’s boundaries is “still a huge gap” in society.
The woman shared the disturbing details of the incident and said she wanted to ensure that women, and people in general, speak out against these crimes to stop criminals from getting away with it.
The survivor shared the incident and explained that at approximately 11.30 PM on Wednesday, she was walking around Eco world in the Marathalli area, when she felt a “huge hit” in her back.
“I was perplexed. I thought maybe someone was riding a vehicle recklessly. The same thing happened again, though, and with greater intensity. Then I was sure someone was doing this deliberately,” she said.
According to the woman, she screamed for help but received none.
“The third time… I could see the guy taking a U-turn and coming for me. I shouted for help, there were so many people, it is always a bustling area… I asked people for help, I stopped auto drivers, I stopped others… but no one came to my help, that’s the most surprising thing,” she said.
She explained that because survivors of such attacks are stigmatized, she felt it was her duty to speak up about the experience.
The woman said she sought assistance from Eco world’s security booth right after the incident occurred. She approached the police on Thursday, and an assistant commissioner of police and a deputy commissioner of police were each investigating the incident.
The woman said she is more vigilant, but she knows how to deal with situations like this when asked if she feels uncomfortable after what happened.
