Namo Bharat Train Trial Runs Begin On Underground Shatabdi Nagar-Modipuram Stretch News24 –

The Name Bharat train, a component of the Tegional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), has started trial runs reaching up to Modipuram, the last station of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut route. According to NCRTC officials, during Thursday’s test run between Shatabdi Nagar and Modipuram, the train passed through Meerut’s underground section for the first time.

As quoted by the Times of India, Puneet Vats, Chief Public Relations officer of NCRTC, said, “Until now, trials were being conducted at both ends of the operational corridor — New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South to Shatabdi Nagar. This is a historic milestone as trains are now running across the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.”

The integration process for the train system with tracks and platform screen doors (PSDs), as well as overhead power supply, will begin according to NCRTC. High-speed limit tests to reach 180 kmph design speed will start conducting in several trials during the subsequent days. The trial operations for Meerut Metro continue on its Meerut South–Meerut Central sections. A local Indian metro system became the first in the country to operate its services alongside a regional transit network. As a part of the 23-km Meerut Metro route, the transportation system consists of 18 km elevated segments and 5 km underground sections backed by thirteen stations with underground specifications at three locations along the route.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS stands as India’s initial corridor under this project framework and functions as a collaboration between central authorities alongside Haryana and Delhi and their counterparts from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, who hold 12.5% each. The Rs 30,270 crore investment behind this project will establish a 50-minute journey between Delhi and Meerut. Twenty-four stations exist throughout the corridor as it includes elevated routes extending across 70.5 km combined with underground sections amounting to 11.5 km. Vats mentioned that the corridor will start full operations in June 2025.
