Jails In Jammu And Kashmir On High ALERT As Intel Warns Of Imminent Terror Strike In Cells Housing High-Profile Terrorists News24 –
Reports have emerged of a potential terror attack targeting several jails that house high-profile terrorists and overground workers. Intelligence sources have warned of a well-planned strike on multiple jails in the state on Monday. Authorities have issued alerts for Srinagar Central Jail and Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu, where they believe the threat of terror attacks remains high. These jails house most of the prominent militants and sleeper cell members.
Why These Jails
Terror suspects held in these jails have allegedly provided logistical and strategic support to terrorists. Although they do not directly carry out attacks, they play a crucial role by offering shelter and helping terrorists move from one location to another. The current high alert comes amid ongoing investigations into the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including 25 tourists and one Nepalese national.
In response to the intelligence inputs, authorities have reviewed and strengthened the security arrangements at these jails. Authorities took this proactive measure to prevent potential security lapses and ensure the safety of the high-profile individuals housed inside. They also implemented enhanced security protocols to guard against any possible attacks or incidents.
In response to security threats, DG CISF, RS Bhatti, met with top officials of the security grid in Srinagar on Sunday. Notably, the CISF had taken over the security of Jammu and Kashmir’s jails from the CRPF in October 2023. Officials view the meeting as a step to further strengthen security in response to the ongoing threat. As part of their crackdown on terrorists and their networks in Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have recently questioned several suspects and overground workers. They have also demolished the houses of terrorists suspected to be involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.
Pahalgam Terror Attack
On April 22, tragedy struck the serene Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam town when gunmen opened fire on unsuspecting people, killing 26 individuals, most of them tourists who had come to enjoy the peaceful beauty of Kashmir.
In the days that followed, authorities released sketches of the suspected attackers, who are believed to have ties to Pakistan. The horrific incident cast a long shadow across the region and prompted a strong response from India. On April 23, India took a firm diplomatic stand, downgrading ties with Pakistan and announcing five key measures — including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the expulsion of Pakistani military attachés — in a clear message about the seriousness of the attack’s cross-border connections.
In the latest escalation of tensions, India has now enforced a complete ban on the import of all goods from Pakistan. The government announced the decision on Sunday, citing national security and public interest in light of the devastating Pahalgam attack.
