An encounter between security forces and terrorists is currently underway in the Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, resulting in the killing of one terrorist. The operation, dubbed “OP NADER,” was launched by the joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and CRPF based on specific intelligence inputs.
According to sources, three local Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists are believed to be holed up at the operation site. The identified suspects include Asif Sheikh, a resident of Mughama Tral, who has been active since April 2022 and had previously been linked to the Pahalgam attack. His house was demolished following that incident. The second terrorist, Amir Nazir Wani from Khadhpora Tral, has been active since August 2024, with his residence also destroyed by security forces. The third suspect, Yawar Ahmad Bhat, also from Tral, has been active since the same month.
The encounter began when security forces after launching the search operation following specific inputs, noticed suspicious activity in the area. Upon challenging the terrorists, they opened fire, leading to a fierce gunfight. The Army’s Additional Director General of Public Information (ADGPI) confirmed the ongoing operation via a post on social media platform X.
A senior police officer informed News24 that one terrorist has been confirmed dead; however, the identity of the slain terrorist, will be established once the operation concludes.
This encounter follows closely on the heels of a recent operation in Shopian, where operational commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Shahid Kuttay, along with two other terrorists, was killed.
