What Attracted Them?
For Jyoti Malhotra, the offer felt special as she struggled to monetise her channel. She was having a hard time earning money from her YouTube channel. So, a free trip to the beautiful northern parts of Pakistan made her feel special, like a dream. Encounter with the Danish of the Pakistan High Commission, also promised her access to important events at the High Commission. This made her feel important and excited. But with every meeting, he slowly started asking for small favours- And for her, it was a ‘small’ thing but impacted the country. She was asked to take a photo or record a video. Pakistani spies (ISI) were closely watching her posts and using them to gather secret information. Slowly, she started giving sensitive information for lakhs, travel sponsorships, views, shares and fame.
Priyanka Senapati, a vlogger from Odisha, has the same tale as Jyoti, where she was obsessed with money, fame and sponsorships. Police have confirmed that both Jyoti and Priyanka have travelled together to many countries.
Rs 30,000 UPI transaction
Ghazala was arrested in Punjab’s Malerkotla and came in contact with the High Commission. According to police, her UPI transaction showed a Rs 30,000 UPI transaction from Danish. She shared the data about army trucks, army bases, and other sensitive sites for a few bucks. She later returned to the embassy in April with her friend Banu Nasrina, again through Danish. Shahzad, a businessman from Uttar Pradesh was arrested by Special Task Force. He is accused of involvement in cross-border smuggling and espionage activities on behalf of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The promise of money made the visa offer even more appealing. Students like Devendra Singh Dillon and Armaan travelled to Pakistan, where they allegedly met with ISI officials. After returning to India, they are accused of sharing sensitive information and were reportedly paid large sums for it.
Nauman Ilahi was arrested with eight passports and had travelled to Pakistan four times. He allegedly passed on sensitive information related to troop movements and train routes. His connection to Pakistan was made easier as both his aunt and maternal aunt live there, allowing him to cross the border without much difficulty. His involvement reportedly began after the arrest of Iqbal’s associate, Kaleem.
