Massive Landslide Blocks Adi Kailash Route Near Elagarh In Uttarakhand News24 –

A significant landslide on the Adi Kailash route close to Elagarh in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand has caused massive boulders to fall on the road, disrupting the traffic flow. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel are working to open the road. The road is closed for locals and devotees going to Adi Kailash, who have become stranded for the time being. Long queues of vehicles are seen on both sides of the landslide, waiting for the road to re-open.

A BRO team has been sent out on-site which is working to open the road with excavators. Some people have attempted to cross at their own risk. As of the last update, the road has been opened enough that the traffic flow has started slightly.

Dharchula Sub Divisional Magistrate Manjit Singh and Police in-charge Vijendra Sah reached the scene and surveyed the work. The Police have rescued the tourists who were stuck in the landslide zone and taken to safer spots. There are no fatalities reported at present.

Manjit Singh and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rekha Yadav have called on travellers to remain calm and seek safe shelter until the road is opened. They expect the road to be completely opened by late night. “The work to open the road is going on a war footing,” Manjit Singh said.

A number of tourists and devotees go to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat during these days. Even Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) national president and central minister JP Nadda returned from this area after a two-day visit on Monday.

This road is the lifeline for villagers that live near the Tibet border. It is a road utilized by travellers going to Adi Kailash, Om Parvat and Kailash Mansarovar.
