Kheer Bhawani Festival Draws Large Crowds In Kashmir Despite Recent Pahalgam Attack News24 –

In a remarkable display of resilience and faith, the Kheer Bhawani festival in Kashmir valley has attracted hundreds of devotees this year, defying expectations of a diminished turnout following the recent Pahalgam attack. The overwhelming response serves as a powerful testament to the triumph of faith over fear and terrorism.

Held annually at the sacred Kheer Bhawani Temple, this festival honors Goddess Ragnya, with devotees gathering to offer Kheer (a traditional rice pudding) and milk at the revered Kund, which is believed to reflect the goddess’s mood through its changing colors. This year, the water in the Kund has turned a vibrant green, symbolizing hope, prosperity, and well-being for the people and country.

The festival not only celebrates spiritual beliefs but also fosters communal harmony. Members of the local Muslim community played an integral role, preparing offerings and assisting in various capacities, including safeguarding the shoes of visiting Pandits. This spirit of unity exemplifies the essence of Kashmiriyat, showcasing the bonds that transcend religious divides.

Traditionally, the Kund’s color changes are interpreted as omens for the year ahead. While hues like red and black signal potential turmoil, green is seen as a harbinger of peace. The Kund has previously turned dark before significant historical events, including the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 and the Kargil War in 1999. However, this year’s green color has brought a sense of relief and optimism among devotees.

In response to security concerns following the Pahalgam attack, authorities have implemented stringent safety measures for devotees. Enhanced security protocols and sanitization efforts have been established to ensure a safe environment for all participants.
