Remarks on clothing spark row
While addressing a gathering, the minister said, “In the West, a woman wearing fewer clothes is considered beautiful. But in India, we consider a girl beautiful when she is well dressed, wears jewellery, and carries herself with grace.
‘Beauty lies in grace’
He further said, “ There is a saying in the West that a girl wearing short clothes is considered as beautiful, just as a leader who speaks less. But, I do not believe in that. A girl is a form of the Goddess. She should wear nice clothes. I don’t like women who wear skimpy clothes.”
“When girls come to take selfies, I tell them, come wearing good clothes, then we will take the photo,” Vijayvargiya said.
‘Girls in bad dresses look like Shurpanakha’
In 2023, Kailash Vijayvargiya had said, “Girls in bad dresses look like Shurpanakha of the Ramayana.” A video of his comment went viral and drew ire of Netizens. He had also said that he would like to “slap drunkards six-seven times.”
“Girls can be seen wearing dirty clothes at public places. We think of women as goddesses. There’s however no trace of that in them. They look like Surpanakha. God has given you a good body, wear nice clothes. Please teach your children well, I am very worried,” Times of India quoted Vijayvargiya as saying.
The Congress part had sought an apology from him.
