Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is leading an all-party delegation to deliver India’s strong message against terrorism to the world, faced a pointed question from his son, Ishaan Tharoor. Ishaan, a foreign affairs columnist at The Washington Post didn’t miss the opportunity to question his father during an interaction at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York on Thursday. As Ishaan stood up to pose his question, Tharoor joked that he (Ishaan) shouldn’t be allowed to question him as he is his son.
Tharoor’s reaction prompted laughter in the room, which was followed by a light-hearted moment between them. The Congress MP, like a doting dad asked his son to raise the mic, when he couldn’t hear him clearly. Ishaan greeted him with a “Hey”, and said, “Questioning mostly to say Hey, before you go off to next engagement.”
Ishaan asked the Congress MP whether any country had asked the delegation for evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack and about Pakistan’s repeated denials of any role in the attack.
To this, Tharoor responded clearing that he didn’t plant the question and is glad that Ishaan raised this question. The Congress MP firmly stated that no country had asked India about the evidence, as no one had any doubts. He also asserted that India would not have done this (Visit of All-party delegation) without a convincing evidence, indicating that the government has credible proof of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack.
“Very simply, no one had any doubt, and we were not asked for evidence. But the media have asked in two or three places. Let me say very clearly that India would not have done this without convincing evidence. But there were three particular reasons I want to draw your attention to all of you. The first is that we’ve had a 37-year pattern of repeated terror attacks from Pakistan, accompanied by repeated denials,” Tharoor said.

Tharoor further added that one knows what Pakistan is all about, citing the terror attacks of past and their repeated denials. He clearly mentioned that Pakistan has a pattern, where it dispatches terrorist and denies responsibility until they are caught red-handed. His response underscores Pakistan’s involvement and role in fostering terrorism.
“I mean, Americans haven’t forgotten that Pakistan didn’t know, allegedly, where Osama bin Laden was until he was found in a Pakistani safe house right next to an army camp in a cantonment city. That’s Pakistan. Mumbai attacks- they denied having anything to do with it…So we know what Pakistan’s all about. They will dispatch terrorists, they will deny they did so until they’re actually caught with red hands,” said Tharoor.
