A groom in Ghazipur was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute that triggered while dancing on the DJ, police said, adding that a case of murder was registered against eight people and one of the suspects was arrested. Police said the deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Ghazipur.
Police said on Thursday a baarat from Ghazipur had come to a Jagdishpur village. After some rituals, when the groom went to the stage, a fight broke out between the groom’s side and the bride’s side while dancing to the beat of the DJ.
As the groom’s father spotted the fight and tried to intervene, the men from the bride’s side got angry and beat the elderly man with sticks.
“When Rakesh protested and tried to save his father from angry men, he was attacked and sustained severe injuries,” police said.
Rakesh was rushed to a nearby hospital, from where doctors referred him to another hospital in Varanasi, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
On the complaint of the groom’s father, a case was registered against eight people, and one suspect was arrested, said police, adding that efforts are underway to identify others. Further investigation is underway.
