Today, 11 June 2025, marks the 127th birth anniversary of Ram Prasad Bismil, a legendary freedom fighter, poet, and revolutionary of India’s independence movement. He died at a young age after being sentenced to death by the British rulers. His life continues to inspire millions of Indians, especially the youth, to love their country and stand up for justice.
About Ram Prasad Bismil
Ram Prasad Bismil was born on 11 June 1897 in Shahjahanpur, a town in Uttar Pradesh, India. His father’s name was Murlidhar and his mother was Moolmati. From young age, Bismil loved reading books and writing poems. He believed in standing up for what is right.
Role in India’s Freedom Struggle
Ram Prasad Bismil joined the freedom movement when he was still young. He did not like how the British treated Indians. He became a member of a secret revolutionary group called the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA). This group wanted to fight against British rule and make India free.
The Kakori Conspiracy
One of the most important events in Bismil’s life was the Kakori Conspiracy. On 9 August 1925, Bismil and other revolutionaries stopped a train near Kakori (in Uttar Pradesh) and took money from the British government’s treasury. They did this to fund their freedom activities.
Later, the British arrested many of the revolutionaries, including Bismil. He was sentenced to death by the British government and was hanged on December 19, 1927, when he was 30 years old.
Patriotic Poems by Ram Prasad Bismil
Ram Prasad Bismil was also a talented poet and writer. His poetry was full of love for the country and inspired many people to fight for freedom.
One of the most famous patriotic poems associated with him are:
