World Day Against Child Labour is observed every year on June 12. It reminds us how important it is to create a world where children are not forced to work and can go to school and enjoy their childhood.
Child labour means any work that is not suitable for a child’s age or abilities. It can harm their body or mind.
In India, the Constitution clearly says that children under 14 years old are not allowed to work in mines, factories, or other dangerous jobs.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) also says that anyone under 18 should not do hazardous work.

Key Agreements to Stop Child Labour
Thursday, June 12, 2025, marks the 26th anniversary of the day the world agreed on rules to stop the worst forms of child labour.
This day is a chance for everyone, governments, organizations, and communities to work harder to follow and support two important child labour agreements:
- Convention No. 182, which aims to stop the worst kinds of child labour
- Convention No. 138, which sets the minimum age for children to start working
Even though there has been progress to stop child labour, UNICEF says that almost 138 million children around the world still do some kind of work. Out of these, 54 million children do very dangerous work.
Theme for World Day Against Child Labour 2025
“Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts!”
This means we have made some good progress, but we still need to work faster and harder to keep our promises to protect children.
The World Day Against Child Labour is important because it helps people all over the world come together to stop child labour.
