Why Do Flyers Hate Seat 11A? Did It Save Ahmedabad Plane Crash Survivor Vishwas Kumar Ramesh’s Life? News24 –

Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, a name that has gained formidable lime light being the lone survivor out of the Ahmedabad plane crash, sat on the seat 11A. The seat probably played a big role in saving his life and just might now become the go to choice for flyers, But as per a slew of forum posts and media reports it has been established that such seats are often not the first choice for travelers. The reason behind the reluctance to choose 11 A is that such seats place the flyers in the middle of the plane.  But what often remains to be the last choice for flyers probably ended up saving Vishwas’s life. There has been no confirmation about the reason behind the crash, investigations are going on.

Why Travelers Often Refuse Seat 11 A

As per an exclusive report done by The Sun last year, flight attendants iterated that flyers often refuse to choose the 11A as well as 11F  as they place them  right in the meddle of the plane and flyers sitting in such seats get to de board at the last. Flyers who see to de board fast, often stay away from choosing these seats.

Seat 11A, also restricts the view of the passengers because of its close proximity to the wing and the smaller window, some flights don’t even have windows for seat 11A. Vishwas Kumar Ramesh sat on the seat 11A in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner that went down. Ramesh is a British citizen who was on his way to meet his family along with his 45 year old brother. His brother sat in a different row. While addressing his ordeal in a conversation with Times of India he reported “When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital,”

The Incident

The tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday claimed the lives of 241 people, including passengers and crew members. Out of 242 onboard, only one person survived the fateful incident. The London-bound flight AI-171, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, took off at 1:17 PM but began descending minutes later. The aircraft crashed into the BJ Medical College and Hospital, causing further casualties on the ground. Air India confirmed the death toll, with only one person surviving the crash. The lone survivor and several injured individuals, including MBBS students, are currently receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.

Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, the only surviving passenger of the AI-171 plane crash, is a British citizen of Daman and Diu origin. He is currently admitted in Ward C7 of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where he has been placed in a separate, highly restricted room to ensure his privacy and security. Ramesh sustained injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet. He said that about 30 seconds after takeoff, there was a loud noise and the plane crashed.

While the reason behind the crash is still unclear, videos of the incident have revealed that right after taking off the pilot repeated Mayday calls over the radio to the air traffic control unit. Going by the videos of the incident the plane’s landing gear was still out while it descended after its initial takeoff. As of yet the reason behind the incident is being reported as an engine failure or a bird hit, further investigation would soon reveal the real reason.

This is the first incident that the dreamliner line of airplanes has been involved in, the Dreamliner is often considered to be a safe palace that is known for its profound flying capabilities. After the Air India incident in 2020 where an Air India express plane could not gain traction on the runway and it broke off in tow parts- this is the second similar incident that has caused extensive damage.
