On Monday, two youths upset with the irregular supply of electricity entered the sub-station of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (Mahavitaran) in Walgaon of Amravati district and created a ruckus and set the office on fire. The incident took place on June 15 at around 11:30 am, when both the accused entered the office with a bottle of petrol and set fire to the tables and chairs by sprinkling petrol on them.
According to eyewitnesses, the two youths first expressed their anger at the assistant engineer present in the office and said, “There is no electricity in our area for hours, and you people are just busy with tea and water.”
The entire incident was recorded on a mobile by an employee present there, which clearly shows that the attack was pre-planned. The accused had brought petrol with them and planned to deliberately damage the sub-station. Many documents, computers and important files were burned to ashes in the arson. According to Mahavitaran, due to this attack, the services of the sub-station were disrupted for some time, affecting the power supply of more than 6 villages.
Valgaon police have registered a case in this case under serious charges like attack on a government employee, arson, and damage to government property. Both the accused are currently absconding,g and two police teams have been dispatched to different places in search of them.
Locals say that for the last several weeks, there have been long power cuts daily in the area, and despite complaints, no solution has been found. However, they have criticized this violent act and demanded strict action against the culprits from the administration.
