Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has recently announced a FASTag-based annual pass to simplify travel on highways and expressways. This annual pass will be available from August 15, 2025, and will facilitate hassle-free travel for just Rs 3000.
A new condition has also been introduced for this pass that it will be valid only on these highways and expressways operated by NHAI.
The FASTag annual pass will not be applicable at toll booths of state governments, but will be valid only at NHAI toll plazas. For example, it can be used on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, but will not be used on the Meerut Expressway, the Yamuna Expressway, the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and the Purvanchal Expressway.
According to Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, this annual pass can be obtained from the Highway Travel App, NHAI’s official website, and the Ministry of Transport website. He informed in his post that a special link will also be released soon to activate the pass.
This FASTag annual pass will be linked to the existing RFID FASTag of the vehicle and will be activated automatically when the vehicle passes within 60 km of the toll plaza. This pass is non-transferable and can be applied for any vehicle whose FASTag is valid. However, if the FASTag is registered on the chassis number of the vehicle, then it will not be eligible for this annual pass.
