In a shocking incident reported from Jammu and Kashmir, a 70-year-old widow was allegedly raped by a man lesser age than her son. The woman, a native of Maharashtra, had gone to Pahalgam with her son to experience the picturesque beauty of Kashmir. When she was in her hotel room alone, the accused reportedly entered, covered her mouth with a blanket and sexually assaulted her.

Victim Left With Severe Injuries

While the accused fled the scene, committing the crime, the woman was left with severe injuries. Based on her account, she couldn’t move for days due to pain. According to police, an FIR has been registered against the man, and a probe is underway. Medical reports revealed the gravity of the brutal offense. Meanwhile, the accused had sought bail, alleging that he was falsely implicated in the case due to a personal hostility between the police and his family.

Court Rejects Accused’s Bail Application

The court has rejected his bail application on the grounds that the victim’s allegations were grave and cannot be turned a blind eye to. Additionally, the judge noted that the assault has tarnished the rich cultural legacy of Kashmir, and was ‘unfortunate’ and ‘condemnable’. Times Now quoted him as saying, “This land of saints and seers must uphold its values not just in word but in action.”
