The Delhi government has put the ruling on hold which mandates the denial of fuel to End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles in the national capital.
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa wrote to the Commission for Air Quality Management to place on hold the direction which mandates the denial of fuel to End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles in Delhi.
Sirsa said, “We have informed them that the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras that were installed are not a robust system, and there are still many challenges with them. Technical glitches, non-working sensors, and malfunctioning speakers, all these challenges are there. It has not been integrated with the NCR data yet. It is not able to identify HSRP plates. We also said that such a law has not been implemented in Gurgaon, Faridabad and Ghaziabad and the rest of NCR till now..”

Delhi Assembly LoP and former Delhi CM Atishi said, “Is the BJP running a government in Delhi or Phulera’s panchayat? One day they take a decision, the next day they themselves say the decision is not right. On the third day, they write letters. If the decision is not right, why did you take it? And why aren’t you taking it back? Why are you playing this letter game? BJP has a four-engine government in Delhi; if they wanted, they could have immediately withdrawn the decision, but they haven’t done so yet because the BJP is in cahoots with car manufacturers, car scrappers, and car dealers. We asked the BJP a question that remains unanswered: how much donation did the BJP receive from car manufacturers and sellers in the last 5 years?… Removing vehicles after 10 years is a completely absurd, illogical, and baseless decision.”

A vehicle owner said, “The steps the government is taking for Delhi are good. Pollution caused by vehicles is high, so the steps being taken are good. If the vehicle is old, then it is the responsibility of the citizens to come forward. Similar steps should be taken in all metro cities.”
