Bharat Bandh Today LIVE Updates: A nationwide shutdown will be observed today, on July 9, to protest against what they describe as the Central Government’s “anti-worker, anti-farmer, and anti-national pro-corporate policies.” Over 25 crore public service workers are expected to participate in the Bharat Bandh from across the country. The strike has been called by a joint platform of 10 trade unions, which have accused the government departments of hindering the growth of the country amid the ongoing unemployment crisis.
The strike will be joined by the banking & insurance workers, rural & farm unions (Samyukta Kisan Morcha), postal services, State transport staff, coal mining, and factory workers. Banks & postal services, public transport, coal, and steel production are likely to be affected, while schools, colleges, and private offices will remain operational.
The trade unions have said that they are protesting due to the fear of job loss because of privatisation, the government’s “ignorance” of the 17-point charter, new labour codes, etc. Residents can expect transport delays today, so it is advised to confirm travel timings in advance.
