Two Professors Arrested For Mental Harassment- ‘They Abused Me,’ Says Suicide Note Accessed By News24 News24 –


Hours after a BDS student at Sharda University died by suicide, hanging herself in the college hostel, two professors were arrested for alleged mental harassment and abuse. The student named them in her suicide note. The second-year BDS student, Jyoti, committed suicide on Saturday at 2:54 am.

Jyoti, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana, lived in the Mandela girls’ hostel at Sharda University, located in the Knowledge Park area. An FIR has been filed under BNS Sections 108, 238, 79, 352, and 351(2).

According to the police, after they received information about the incident, a team from Knowledge Park police station rushed to the spot. “She was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared brought dead on arrival. Her body was sent for a post-mortem. During the investigation, it was found that she was a resident of Gurugram and a student of BDS second year,” a senior officer said.

After the forensic examination, a suicide note was recovered from the room, which alleged harassment by the professors of the university. The university management was also accused in the suicide note.In the suicide note, the deceased accused two professors and the university management of mental harassment. According to the note, she had been subjected to mental harassment for a long time. Following the incident, the police took two members of the university staff into custody and are currently interrogating them.

What The Suicide Note Says

“If I die, the teachers of PCP and Dental Material are to blame. Mahinder Sir and Shairq Maam are responsible for my death. I want them to go behind bars. They mentally harassed me. They humiliated me. I have been in stress because of them for a long time. I want them to face the same thing. I am sorry. I can’t live like this anymore. I can’t,”

Students living in the hostel informed the administration, after which the university management also notified the police. The police reached the spot, took possession of the body, and sent it for post-mortem.

Students created a ruckus on the hostel premises and accused the university administration of negligence. According to the students, Jyoti had been accused of forging signatures, which caused her significant stress. During this time, a minor altercation also occurred between the police and the students. However, the police officers eventually managed to calm the students and bring the situation under control.

ADCP Greater Noida, Sudhir Kumar, said, “Based on a complaint filed by the girl’s family, a case has been registered against university staff under relevant sections, and two accused have been taken into custody. There was anger among the students’ family members and university students toward the University administration, which was calmed by police officers through dialogue.”
