A teacher in Navi Mumbai has been arrested for allegedly performing a semi-nude video call with a minor student. The 35-year-old woman has been booked in an FIR under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after the boy’s father filed a police complaint.
According to police, the teacher had been sending obscene messages over social media to the boy for some time. Later she started video calls after which the boy informed his parents.
The parents then went to the police and lodged a complaint. In his complaint, the boy’s father said the teacher’s conduct had adversely impacted the boy’s mental health. The police have taken the teacher into custody and lodged a case under the POCSO Act.
The police are also looking into whether the teacher had any prior instances of such conduct with her students. Her mobile phone has been seized.
This comes just weeks after a teacher, 40, at a prominent Mumbai school was arrested for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old-boy for the past one year. This married woman was also booked on charges under the POCSO Act.
The accused told police she was attracted to students during preparations for the annual school function. Initially, the boy avoided the teacher, but later approached her and agreed to meet for coffee. This prompted the teacher to contact a female friend for assistance. The friend, also charged, allegedly contacted the minor and told him that relationships between much older women and teenage boys had “become quite common.”
