Former MP Prajwal Revanna broke down on Friday after the Karnataka MP/MLA Special Court held him guilty of raping a domestic help. On Saturday(August 1, 2025), the court pronounced the verdict in one of the four rape cases registered against Prajwal, the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda.

A Special Court in Bengaluru, designated to handle criminal cases involving former and sitting MPs and MLAs, convicted former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna in one rape case. The court sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for the remainder of his life. This is the maximum punishment prescribed under Section 376(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with aggravated forms of rape, particularly when committed by individuals in positions of authority or trust.

Prajwal’s father, Hardanahalli Devegowda Revanna (HD Revanna), is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Karnataka, representing the Holenarasipur constituency in Hassan district. The case against Prajwal was initiated following a complaint by a woman from K R Nagar in Mysuru.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim woman from K R Nagar, Mysore, a case was registered against Prajwal at the Cyber Crimes Police Station under IPC sections 376(2)(N), 376(2)(K), 506, 354-A, 354(A), 354(B), 354(C) and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act.

Four separate cases have been registered against Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of rape and sexual harassment, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the cases against him.

About The Case

During the investigation, the SIT collected 123 evidences and filed a charge sheet of about 2,000 pages in the special court for people’s representatives at the end of the year. It is alleged that the victim was raped first at Gannigarh farm house in Hassan and later at Revanna’s residence in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru. The heinous act was also recorded on a mobile phone.

The SIT arrested Prajwal Revanna on May 21, 2024, while he was returning from abroad and he has been in judicial custody since then. Four rape cases have been registered against Prajwal, involving a former district panchayat member and another woman who sought his assistance for her son’s school admission.

How Did The Cases Come To Light?

The cases came to light after pen drives containing explicit videos allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna were reportedly circulated in Hassan, ahead of Lok Sabha elections there on April 26, 2024.
