Gurugram Police on Sunday arrested a 35-year-old woman for conspiring with her neighbour to kill her 37-year-old husband. The body of the victim was found buried in a pit after she had filed a missing person complaint. The police have also arrested a 60-year-old man – the uncle of the woman’s neighbour – who allegedly dug the pit for the victim’s body.
Police had earlier arrested the woman’s 34-year-old neighbour on Friday, after she alleged that he raped her in March, recorded a video, and threatened to make it go viral. She also claimed to suspect him of being behind her husband’s disappearance. Before that, on July 28, the woman had filed a missing person’s complaint, stating she had last seen her husband on July 26.
The police investigation revealed contradictory findings that claimed that the woman had been in a year-long relationship with her neighbour.
According to the official police statement, the murder was triggered when the victim’s daughter discovered a compromising video of the woman and her lover on her father’s phone and showed it to him. Fearing exposure, the woman and her lover devised a plan to kill her husband.
An Indian Express report further revealed that the duo had carefully planned the murder; they scoured the internet and YouTube for methods of killing a man and disposing of his body. The neighbour then sought help from his uncle, who worked in cattle rearing, to dig a pit for the victim’s body. On July 26, the woman and her neighbour strangled her husband with a rope and buried him in a pit. The body was later discovered, according to the killer’s confession, police said.
The investigation further revealed that the woman remained in contact with her neighbour over the phone throughout the crime. In an attempt to clear her name, she even filed a missing person complaint, despite knowing her husband had been murdered.
