At Least 16 Injured As Slab Of Under-Construction Mahalaxmi Temple Gate Collapses; Vibrations Suspected As Cause News24 –

In a tragic incident, at least 15 to 16 workers were injured after a slab from an under-construction gate at the Mahalaxmi Jagadamba Devasthan in Nagpur’s Koradi collapsed on Saturday night. The mishap occurred around 8 pm, officials said. Out of the wounded, three are said to be critical. No casualties have been reported so far.

Teams from the NDRF and the Police have initiated a rescue operation. According to Nagpur DM Vipin Itankar, “When RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) for the slab was being put in, it collapsed. The labourers who were working suffered minor injuries. They were 15-16 in number. They have been shifted to hospitals. As per protocol, NDRF, Police Department, and Revenue Department are present here.”

The Nagpur DM further added that the debris was being removed with the help of machines. Several people were reported trapped under the fallen gate. Meanwhile, NMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Meena said that the exact cause of the incident would be ascertained after a detailed investigation is conducted.

Inspector Krupal Mule of the 5th Battalion NDRF told ANI, “When the team of 5th Battalion NDRF reached here, the structure had completely collapsed. When we asked, we were told that everyone who was working here was injured, but all of them were rescued…Nobody was found trapped here. We first conducted a physical search here, followed by a canine search. There doesn’t seem to be anyone trapped here so far.”

He further speculated that the collapse might have been caused by vibrations from the equipment, leading the entire structure to fall at once. There is a four-to-five-foot-high pile of debris at the site.
