Sniffer Dog Bites 4-Year-Old, Family Cancels Trip News24 –

A sniffer dog belonging to a security agency allegedly bit a four-year-old boy at Kolkata airport, forcing his family to cancel a trip to Malaysia, a police officer told PTI on Friday.

The child was attacked by the security animal between departure gates 4A and 4B on August 12. A police complaint in this regard was lodged a week later, the officer said.

The dog, described as a German Shepherd, was with its handler, who was holding the leash. Suddenly, the animal pounced and bit the child, who was accompanied by his parents, as per the complaint.

An FIR has been registered against the handler for his inability to control the dog, which caused severe injury. Such a predicament, right when the family was about to leave, led them to cancel their trip to Malaysia, the officer added.

The family had to cancel the trip as the traumatised child had to undergo anti-rabies vaccinations spread over a month, the father stated in his complaint. The complaint comes at a time when the Supreme Court has made changes to its order regarding the capturing of street dogs to then be taken to shelters.
