Class IX Student Found Dead In Manipur’s Bishnupur After Video Clip Goes Viral News24 –

A student from Class IX was discovered hanging at her home in Bishnupur district in what appeared to be suicide, allegedly after a video clip supposedly recorded and circulated without her knowledge was released online and quickly went viral. A case has been registered with the Moirang police station relating to the incident that occurred on Friday and police have already launched an investigation.

The incident has raised serious alarm from the locals and a joint action committee (JAC) has been formed to steer the agenda for justice for the girl.

The JAC has also staged a sit-in protest in Bishnupur district with locals on Saturday by demanding the authorities to arrest the individuals involved in circulating the video by Monday. Furthermore, the JAC had placed a stern warning to the authorities that they would step up agitation if their demand for justice is not fulfilled within the given time period.

The girl’s body is currently deposited in the RIMS mortuary in Imphal after the post-mortem was carried out in front of a magistrate. The JAC has confirmed that they will not claim the body until the perpetrators are arrested.
