Ganga Expressway, which is going to become the new base of progress for Uttar Pradesh, is now in the final phase of its construction. According to the latest report released by the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) on August 25, the project is 89% complete so far, and most of the major works have reached the final stage. This ambitious project, about 594 km long, starts from Meerut and extends to Prayagraj. Its aim is to improve traffic across the state and promote economic and industrial development.
Progress So Far:
The UPEIDA report has recorded notable achievements in the field of construction:
Earthwork (main road): 99% complete
Curb and Gutter (C&G): 100% complete
Granular Sub-base (GSB): 96% complete
Wet Mix Macadam (WMM): 97% complete
Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM): 96% complete
Structures: 1,489 out of 1,500 completed
Route and features
The expressway starts from NH-334 (Meerut) and goes up to NH-2 Bypass (Prayagraj) and passes through 12 districts, which are as follows:
Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj.
Its width has been kept at 6 lanes, which can be increased to 8 lanes in future. Apart from this, a 3.75 meter wide service road is also being built on one side so that the surrounding villages can get smooth local connectivity.
A big step towards the development of the state
The foundation stone of this project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 18 December 2021 in Shahjahanpur. It is being considered a ‘game-changer’ for Uttar Pradesh as it will not only reduce travel time but will also bring new opportunities for trade, investment and employment.
According to officials, the Ganga Expressway will accelerate regional development, reduce the pressure on existing highways and provide a state-of-the-art and fast travel route to the citizens.
As the project moves towards its completion, the latest report of UPEIDA indicates that its inauguration is possible soon, making it a historic chapter in the story of infrastructure development of Uttar Pradesh.
