In a shocking incident, a journalist of a Nagaland-based TV channel was shot at by unidentified assailants while reporting on the ‘Zinnia Flower Festival’ or ‘Cherry Blossom Festival’ at Laii village in Senapati district of Manipur.
Journalist Deep Saikia was shot at around 4 pm by armed men, causing injuries on his right leg and below the armpit. He was immediately rushed to the Senapati District Hospital for first aid and later referred to Nagaland for better treatment. Hospital authorities have confirmed that Saikia is now out of danger.
The Manipur police have registered an FIR in the case and recovered the suspected pressurized air rifle used in the attack. A senior police official said the accused has been identified and a team has been dispatched to arrest him. However, the reason behind the attack is not yet clear.
