Heavy Rainfall Hits J&K; Schools To Remain Closed On September 1 In Jammu Amid Orange Alert News24 –

As heavy rainfall continues to batter Jammu & Kashmir, triggering landslides and causing significant damage in the region, the administration is taking prompt measures to prevent the loss of human lives. In this regard, the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) stated on Sunday that all government and private schools in the Jammu Division will remain closed until Monday, September 1.

This step has been taken in response to the heavy rainfall and weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). An orange alert for moderate to heavy rainfall has been issued by the IMD for Jammu on Sunday, August 31.

Weather Forecast For Jammu

The orange alert remains in effect for Monday, September 1 as well. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40kmph) is expected to hit Jammu.

Furthermore, the IMD has issued an orange alert until September 2, followed by a yellow alert for September 3. Heavy Rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is expected to lash Jammu during this period.

CM Omar Abdullah Visits Ramban

Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the cloudburst-affected Ramban district to assess the damage. He stated that restoration work in the landslide-hit areas is expected to take approximately 20 to 25 days and alternative routes are available to facilitate two-way traffic. He visited Marog village in Ramban district, which is one of several areas hit hard by recent cloudbursts and flash floods.

“The situation is being assessed. There has been incessant heavy rainfall in the past few days. Highway has suffered damage at several locations. We have spoken with the concerned company, NHAI, and the District Administration, and it has been found that we have an alternative. However, in locations where roads have suffered damage due to landslides, restoration will take 20-25 days. But we have an alternate as of now. It has been prepared for double-sided traffic. Areas around Udhampur have suffered massive damage. If that is restored, we will be able to release traffic from here,” said Abdullah.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, UTDRF and other rescue teams, launched operations after a cloudburst hit Rajgarh Tehsil in Ramban on Sunday.

According to officials, flash floods resulting from the cloudburst impacted multiple locations and four bodies have been recovered so far.
