Ganga Expressway Nears Completion With 89% Progress, Set to Boost Connectivity Across 12 UP Districts News24 –
Ganga Expressway: The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) on Monday, August 25, stated that 89% of the work on the Ganga Expressway has been completed. Sharing the progress report, the authority sated that Earth Work in Main Carriageway, Clearing and Grubbing in Main Carriageway are 100% complete, while the Granular Sub-Base in main carriageway is 96% complete. A total of 1,489 structures have been constructed, bringing the overall progress to 89%. Construction of fully access-controlled Ganga Expressway began from NH 334, in Meerut and ends in Prayagraj
Set To Boost Connectivity Across 12 UP Districts
The much-awaited Ganga Expressway, upon its completion is set to increase connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. The length of the expressway is 594 km, and will become the longest expressway in the state after its completion. It has been built at a cost of over Rs. 36,200 crore.
The six lane (expandable up to 8 lanes) Ganga Expressway starts from village Bijoli in Meerut district and ends at JudapurDandu village in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh. All the structures have been constructed of 8 lane width. The expressway is fully access controlled and designed for a closed toll system.
It will pass through Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, RaeBareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj, boosting connecting across major districts. Additionally, the Ganga Expressway will provide direct high speed connectivity from National Capital Region through proposed expressway to Meerut and then onwards to Prayagraj.
While facilitating the construction of all-weather high speed access controlled expressway, it will decongest the traffic on existing road network, enhancing travel experience of commuters. It will allow faster movement of goods and people.
Moreover, a 3.5 Km long air strip for assisting emergency take-off and landing of Air Force planes will be constructed on the Expressway in Shahjahanpur. An industrial corridor is proposed to be built along the Expressway, which will boost industrial development, trade, agriculture, tourism etc. in the region.
PM Modi On Ganga Expressway
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur, on December 18, 2021. The inspiration behind the Ganga Expressway is the vision of the Prime Minister to provide fast paced connectivity across the country.
“The development of the UP farmers and the rapid growth of traders and entrepreneurs are also dependent on the connectivity here. Be it the Bundelkhand Expressway, the Purvanchal Expressway or the proposed Ganga Expressway, they will not only increase connectivity in UP, but are also going to create many employment opportunities,” stated PM Modi during its foundation laying.
