Govt Urges Airlines To Keep Fares Reasonable As Air India, IndiGo Increase Services News24 –


India’s Civil Aviation Ministry is working to return stranded Indians in Nepal by sending additional flights to Kathmandu in partnership with Air India and IndiGo, Union Minister K Rammohan Naidu said Wednesday.

The Kathmandu airport closed in light of peaceful protests by Nepal Gen Z over multiple days, both Monday and Tuesday. The airport reopened for travelers on Wednesday, 10 September, after travelers generally were confined to their hotels by restrictions and then curfew imposed by the Nepal Army to stop violence.

“Due to airport closure in Nepal, many home-bound passengers were unable to return from Kathmandu,” Naidu said in a post on X. The Civil Aviation Minister confirmed the Centre is coordinating with Air India and IndiGo to bring back stranded Indians in Nepal words.

“With the opening of the airport operation in Kathmandu, @MoCA_GoI, in coordination with Air India & IndiGo, has arranged additional flights this evening & over the next few days, alongside scheduled services resuming tomorrow,” Naidu said. He said that the airlines have been advised to keep their prices reasonable during this time.

“We remain committed to supporting our passengers while ensuring their safe travel during this time,” Naidu said.

Air India announces additional flights

In reaction to government measures, Air India said on Wednesday it will be operating additional flights to Kathmandu, which will assist in bringing stranded Indians in Nepal.

“Air India is operating special flights today and tomorrow from Delhi to Kathmandu and back to help passengers who have been stranded due to the recent developments in Nepal. Our scheduled operations will also resume from tomorrow,” it said.

Nepal Protests: Hundreds of Indians stranded in Nepal

The Nepal Protests saw Tribhuvan International airport amid violence as protestors set abaze key government buildings amidst deaths of 19 youth as a result of police brutality.

As a result, this left hundreds of Indians stranded in Nepal. In light of the situation, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a travel advisory for its citizens.

In its advisory, the MEA also advised Indians to refrain from any non-essential travel to Nepal until the situation settles down. Those who are in the country, are advised to remain indoors, avoid going to the street and are advised to heed any local safety advisories issued by the Nepalese authorities and the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.
