Assam Earthquake: An earthquake of 5.9 magnitude struck Assam on Sunday evening, with strong tremors reported in Guwahati and nearby areas. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre was located 14 km East of Udalguri in Assam. No immediate loss of lives or damage to property has been reported.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also took to X and informed that the government is monitoring the situation and no damage has been reported so far. “An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 has struck Assam today . The epicentre was near Udalguri. So far , there has been no report of any major damage or loss of life . We are actively monitoring the situation,” Sarma stated.

Assam Earthquake: Union Minister Sonowal prays for safety
The earthquake occurred around 4.41pm and the depth of the earthquake is said to be 5 km. Union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed concern over the earthquake and prayed for safety and well-being of everyone. In an X post, he wrote, “Major earthquake in Assam. My prayers for everyone’s safety and well-being. Urge all to stay alert! #Earthquake.”
