Unidentified Gunmen Attack Assam Rifles Vehicle in Manipur; Two Jawans Martyred News24 –


Unknown assailants opened fire on a vehicle carrying Assam Rifles personnel on Friday at Nambol Sabal Leikai in Manipur’s Bishnupur district. According to media reports, two Assam Rifles soldiers were martyred and several others were injured in the attack. The attack occurred when the soldiers were travelling in their vehicle from Imphal and passing through the Nambol police station area at around 6 pm.

Former Manipur CM N. Biren Singh posted on his X handle and wrote, “I am deeply shaken to hear about the ambush on our brave 33 Assam Rifles personnel at Nambol Sabal Leikai. The loss of two jawans and injuries to several others is a cruel blow to us all. My deepest condolences to the families of the fallen and prayers for the quick recovery of the injured. Their courage and sacrifice will remain in our hearts forever. The perpetrators of this heinous act must face the harshest punishment.”

According to police, the incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. when the truck carrying the soldiers was attacked at Nambol Sabal Leikai, an ambush site about 8 kilometers from Imphal airport.

The injured have been evacuated to RIMS Hospital and are currently stable. “The troops showed restraint while retaliating to avoid any civilian casualties,” senior officials added. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Security forces have launched search operations to apprehend the terrorists involved in the incident, officials added.
