The GST reforms are going to be implemented from September 22, and the implementation of tax slabs of 5% and 18% will benefit the younger generation in various ways, particularly in their daily articles of use.
Slashing the slabs will give an advantage to all sections of society, but youths and working professionals will benefit the most through healthier lifestyles and affordable transportation, as the GST Council has lowered the GST rates on gyms and fitness centers from 18% to 5%.
Similarly, the GST rates on two-wheelers and small cars have been cut from 18% to 5%, while the rates on small cars have been reduced from 28% to 18%.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also highlighted how the reduced rates will benefit people. He said, “In the new form, there will now be only 5% and 18% tax slabs. This means that most everyday items will become cheaper. Food items, medicines, soap, brush, paste, health and life insurance, and many such goods and services will either be tax-free or taxed at only 5%. Out of the goods which were earlier taxed at 12%, 99% of the items have now come under the 5% slab.”
