Tamil Nadu Stampede- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede in Karur on Saturday that claimed the lives of 36 people, including 8 children and 16 women, during the political campaign meeting of TVK Chief and actor Vijay. He announced that he will personally visit Karur tonight to meet the victims’ families and offer his condolences, as well as visit those undergoing treatment in hospitals.
In a statement release by Tamil Nadu CMO, CM Stalin has assured that all hospitalised victims will receive the best possible medical care. He has directed the Minister for School Education and the Minister for Health and Family Welfare to proceed to Karur immediately. Additionally, District Collectors from Trichy, Salem, and Dindigul have been dispatched to Karur with medical teams to provide assistance.
Stalin has also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund for the families of the deceased, and Rs 1 lakh each for those undergoing intensive medical treatment in hospitals. Additionally, he has ordered the immediate constitution of a one-member Commission of Inquiry, led by retired High Court Judge Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report to the government.
“I will personally visit Karur tonight to meet the families of the victims, to offer my condolences and also visit those receiving treatment in hospitals. On receiving the heartbreaking news that 36 people, including 8 children and 16 women, lost their lives in the crowd crush at the political campaign meeting of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam in Karur today, I was deeply shocked and pained. I have directed that all those admitted to hospitals for treatment must receive the best possible medical care. To ensure this, I have deputed the Minister for School Education and the Minister for Health and Family Welfare to Karur immediately. Additionally, the District Collectors of Trichy, Salem, and Dindigul have been sent to Karur with medical teams to assist,” CM Stalin said.
