Central Govt Revises CGHS Package Rates, New Tier-Wise System From Oct 13


The Union Health Ministry announced the revision of rates under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) on Friday, which will come into effect on 13 October 2025.

The central government has revised the rates of almost 2000 medical procedures for the first time since 2014 after modifying the rates based on the entitlement of wards, status of accreditation, type of facility (hospital) and city classification.

“These rates will be effective from October 13, 2025,” said the Ministry in a statement on Friday.

What is a CGHS package?

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is a program from the central government for the citizens of the country that provides subsidised medical charges for a variety of expense coverage such as diagnostic tests, consultations, surgery, hospitalisation, and other benefits

The Health Ministry data indicates the CGHS package is a one-time bulk payment, applicable from the time the person is admitted to when the person is discharged, and during all treatments to completion.

The CGHS package consists of the following components, as well as others –

Accommodation charges, including diet for the patient
Admission charges
Anaesthesia charges
Cost of medications and consumables/disposables
Cost of surgical disposables and completes used forcibly and including other items used to perform the surgery
Doctor/ Consultant visit fees
Dressing charges
ICU/ ICCU fee
Injection Charges
Monitoring charges
Nursing care charges
O2 charges, Ventilator charges as routinely required, etc.
Operation charges
Operation theatre fee
Physiotherapy charges, etc.
Procedural charges/surgeons fee
Registration fee
Other routine and essential investigations during the stay in the hospital
Transfusion charges and appropriate blood processing charges
Equipment Charges, including flowtron, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, etc.
