A leopard track and killed a 36-year-old farmer in Maharashtra’s Beed district, police said on Monday.
According to a story published by PTI, the incident took place in the Bavi-Darewadi area in Ashti tehsil on October 12. The man had taken his cattle for grazing, police further added.
The victim, identified as Rajendra Vishwanath Golhar, a resident of Bavi village, had gone to his farm to graze his cattle in the morning.
Soon after Golhar went missing, the villagers alerted the forest department and district officials. Later, a search operation was launched.
The officials found Golhar’s half-eaten body in the fields, confirming that he was attacked by a leopard. A forest official said that the postmortem report is awaited.
The officials have appealed to people not to venture out alone after dark. They also said that patrolling has been increased in the surrounding villages of the area.
In a similar incident, a 5-year-old girl was mauled to death by a leopard in Maharashtra’s Shirur district. The incident took place when the girl was carrying water to her grandfather, who was working on a farm located near her residence.
