Six-Lane Expressway in Final Phase of Construction

The 63-km-Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway is in its final phase and according to reports, nearly 96% of the construction work on the expressway has already been completed. The six-lane highway has been designated as National Expressway 6 (NE-6) by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The stretch starts near Shaheed Path in Lucknow and ends at Azad Marg in Kanpur. The route includes both a 45-kilometer green field section and an 18-kilometer elevated section.

Kanpur to Lucknow in Just 40 Minutes!

The Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway will significantly reduce travel time to Lucknow to just 40-45 minutes. The distance between the two cities is approximately 95km and currently it takes about three hours to complete the journey owing to traffic. Additionally, the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway will be linked to the Ganga Expressway cutting down travel distance and time in both directions.

UP’s First Bike-Free Route, Built With AI-Guided Construction

The expressway is being constructed at a cost of Rs 2,800 crores. This will be the first expressway in the country to use Automated Intelligence Machine-Guided Construction technology. This will be the first expressway in Uttar Pradesh to ban two-wheelers. Apart from this, small passenger vehicles like auto, loader, etc… will not be allowed to move on this route.

The implementing agency of NHAI has explained the rationale behind the ban on bikes, autos, and loaders. It stated that vehicles on the expressway will travel at speeds of up to 120 km per hour, and these smaller vehicles are not suitable for such high speeds.
