School Holiday, October 25, Saturday: After a week of Diwali and related celebrations, October 24 was expected to be a normal working day for school children. Schools in some areas of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Bihar reopened on Friday, October 24. However, since it was the last day of the week, most states have declared a holiday in continuation of the Diwali break. However, on October 25, a few schools in some states will remain open to compensate for the Diwali holidays and holidays caused by heavy rainfall.

School Holidays: Which states will keep schools open?

Some schools in states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka will remain open on Saturday, October 25. Most schools chose to stay open to make up for classes missed due to heavy rains. The state governments had earlier announced that October 25 would be a working day to compensate for school closures on October 21 and 22. These earlier closures were necessary because of the festival and the heavy rain forecast, which posed safety risks for students.

Schools to Function over 15 Districts in Tamil Nadu

As per the latest announcement, schools in more than 15 districts across Tamil Nadu will function on October 25. This move is expected to help students catch up on lost time and ensure that the academic calendar remains on track.

For the latest updates about school holidays, it is recommended that parents follow the official school/class WhatsApp group. Schools will be updating and providing real-time information, announcements, and notifications. Also, parents need to ensure that they have joined the respective WhatsApp group in advance for authentic holiday information. During rains and storms, most holidays will be announced late at night, and the schools will share the notification through the WhatsApp group. School Holidays- Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida (NCR)

Schools in Delhi, Gurgaon, and Noida remained closed from October 19 to 23, 2025, for Diwali celebrations. However, few schools in the National Capital Region have reopened on Friday, October 24, after Diwali celebrations. However, some private schools in Noida will remain closed today. Here, the schools will open on 28th of October, Monday. There are also reports that some schools may extend the break until October 28 to observe Chhath Puja. Parents and students are advised to check official school notifications for accurate reopening dates and updated holiday schedules. Parents will also be notified via the school’s WhatsApp class groups.

School Holidays- Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government has already extended the Diwali holidays, keeping schools closed until 23 October 2025. Most of the schools in the state reopened on Friday. However, a few private schools have announced a holiday for today. Schools will remain closed till Chhath Puja. Parents and students are advised to check official school notifications for the latest holiday updates.

The official break began on Monday, October 20, and ended on Thursday, October 23, while the total holiday period, including the preceding Sunday, spans five consecutive days. This celebratory break applies to the entire state, allowing students to enjoy the festivities with their families.

School Holidays- Rajasthan, J&K

Rajasthan schools will remain closed till October 24, 2025, and schools in the Jammu division will observe holidays from October 19 to November 2. The classes will resume on November 3, 2025. Schools in Rajasthan have the longest holiday break of about 12 days.

Schools shut on October 25, Saturday – Bihar

In Bihar, Diwali holidays started on October 18 and continued for several days. Chhath Puja is considered to be a major festival of the state. Hence, most of the schools will remain closed till Chhath Puja and are expected to open on October 28. However, parents are advised to check with the school authorities. The Bihar Education Department has granted an extended break to enable students, teachers, and families to actively participate in the rituals and community gatherings that define the festival. Classes are scheduled to resume on October 30, 2025.

Chhath Puja will be celebrated from October 25 to 28, 2025:

October 25 – Nahay-Khaay: The day of purification and preparation
October 26 – Kharna: Observers fast and offer kheer and fruits in the evening
October 27 – Sandhya Arghya: Devotees offer prayers to the setting sun
October 28 – Usha Arghya: The final ritual, dedicated to the rising sun

Most of the schools in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh were closed on October 24 due to heavy rain across all their districts. The IMD has warned that both Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka may have heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds on that day.
