Delhi’s Cloud-Seeding Trial for October 29 Put on Hold Due to Insufficient Moisture in Clouds: Here’s What Went Wrong
After a previous trial for cloud seeding, a new trial that was scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in the capital has been put on hold due to insufficient moisture in the clouds, as per a report from The Hindu.
A statement released by the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) on Wednesday (October 29) also confirmed this and stated that the process is highly dependent on the right atmospheric conditions.
The report further detailed that rainfall could not be triggered, as moisture levels were around 15 to 20%, IIT-Kanpur said. However, the institute added that the trial delivered “valuable insights.”

Previous Trials in Cloud Seeding
On Tuesday, October 28, the Delhi government conducted two cloud seeding trials in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur in parts of Delhi, including Burari, North Karol Bagh, Mayur Vihar, and Badli. However, there was no precipitation in the capital city. Minimal rainfall was recorded in Noida and Greater Noida following the trials.
Delhi government minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, on Wednesday, said that the trials were successful and criticized the opposition Aam Aadmi Party, claiming they were jealous of the success of the BJP-led government. This came after AAP questioned the BJP-led government’s recent exercise, stating that no rainfall was recorded despite claims of artificial rain and raising doubts over the feasibility of such experiments in the capital.
New Approach After Tuesday’s Trials
The government, in its report, stated that the cloud seeding trials helped in reducing particulate matter at the locations where the exercise was carried out, even though the conditions were not ideal for it.
