As winter approaches, the Indian Railways is bracing for disruptions caused by dense fog. The wintry conditions are expected to lead to the cancellation of several long-distance express trains over the next three months (December-February). Despite efforts to ensure smooth operations, fog-related delays and cancellations continue to cause inconvenience to passengers every year.

16 trains cancelled across northern India

In this regard, officials have confirmed that multiple trains will be suspended from December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026 due to poor visibility. Among them is the Jalandhar–Delhi Superfast Express, a key train on the Saharanpur–Delhi route, which will remain off service until March 1, 2026.

India.com quoted AK Tyagi, Senior Superintendent of Saharanpur Station, saying that several trains have been instructed to be cancelled due to fog for a certain period. The Railways have assured that alternative arrangements will be made for the convenience of passengers, ensuring they do not face any inconvenience during their travel. A total of 16 trains have been reported cancelled due to dense fog for three months.

NFR cuts train services for 3 months from December

Earlier, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) also announced the cancellation and reduced frequency of several trains in view of foggy conditions from December 1 to March 3, 2025. The decision has been taken to ensure safety and maintain operational efficiency during the winter months in northern and eastern parts of the country, an official statement said.

“To ensure smooth and safe train operations during the upcoming foggy season, NFR has decided to cancel and reduce the frequency of selected trains during the period from December 1, 2025 to March 3, 2026,” the NRF statement read.
