Punjab Government intensifies drive against child begging under Project Jiwanjot, issues child helpline number News24 –
Punjab: CM Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has implemented a rescue operation to save children from begging. Efforts are underway to make the state ‘child beggary-free’. Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur is diligently working to accomplish this goal. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Mann government has intensified its efforts to free the state from child beggary. Two children begging in Faridkot have also been rescued. Both children are currently under the care of the District Child Welfare Committee,” she said.
About Mann Government’s Project ‘JIWANJOT’
Praising the Mann Government’s new Project ‘Jiwanjot’, Dr. Baljit Kaur stated, “With the joint efforts of the District Child Protection Units and CM Bhagwant Mann’s new project, children’s rights will be protected and significant changes will be made in their lives.” She further added that the Chief Minister’s primary objective is that no child should be seen begging on the streets of Punjab.
Under the Jiwanjot project, children will have educational opportunities too. This campaign has begun to yield positive results, Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized. Meanwhile, she called ‘child begging’ a social evil, stating, “It is a violation of child rights,” and also warned of strict action against those who force kids to beg.
Punjab Govt Issues Child Helpline Number
Dr. Kaur also appealed to the Punjab citizens to protect children from this dire cycle of begging. Providing a helpline number, she urged people to report any such incidents to the Child Helpline number 1098 to eradicate this social evil.
