NIA arrests Dr. Umar Nabi’s associate Jasir Bilal Wani from Srinagar News24 –

In a big development connected to the recent Red Fort car blast in Delhi, investigators have arrested a youth from Qazigund, identified as Danish alias ‘Jasir’ Bilal, for his alleged links to the “white-collar” terror network that orchestrated the attack.

According to police sources, Danish, a political science graduate, was being radicalized by Dr. Umar Nabi, an assistant professor at Al-Falah University in Haryana. Dr. Umar, along with other educated professionals, including Dr. Adeel Rather and Dr. Muzaffar Ganaie, is believed to have played a key role in a sophisticated terror module affiliated with the banned outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH).

Investigations revealed that Danish first came into contact with the group at a mosque in Kulgam in October 2023. Later, he was taken to a rented flat near Al-Falah University, where Dr. Umar allegedly indoctrinated him over several months to become a suicide bomber. However, in April 2025, Danish reportedly refused to participate in the attack, citing his belief that “suicide is forbidden in Islam” and his poor financial condition.

Following his refusal, Dr. Umar is said to have taken on the role himself. On November 10, 2025, he allegedly drove an explosive-laden car that detonated near the Red Fort in Delhi, killing 13 people. DNA tests later confirmed his identity after samples taken from the blast site matched those of his mother.

Danish’s detention by the J&K Police, along with the arrests of Dr. Muzamil, Dr. Adeel Rather and Dr. Muzaffar Ganaie, has been pivotal in exposing the broader “white-collar” terror nexus that operated across multiple states.

Tragically, the case took a darker turn when Danish’s father, Bilal Wani—a local dry fruit seller—set himself on fire after learning about his son’s alleged involvement. He succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Family members said Wani had been devastated following the arrest of both his son and his brother, Professor Nazir Wani, who was is also being questioned by authorities.

The wife of Professor Nazir said the family is shattered by the self-immolation incident and the arrests of her husband and nephew. She said they never imagined that their neighbours, who were doctors, were involved in such a shocking terrorist module. “Had we known, we would never have allowed Danish to associate with them,” she added, insisting that her husband—picked up from his college—is innocent and unaware of any such network.

Police sources said Danish remains in custody for further interrogation as investigators continue to trace the financial and ideological links of the highly educated operatives involved in the module. The case has once again raised alarms over the radicalization of educated youth and the sophisticated methods adopted by terror organizations to recruit within professional circles.
