Punjab govt launches major initiative to boost women’s health, hygiene, and employment opportunities News24 –
Taking initiative to ensure women’s health, Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur launched a state wide series of health checkup and employment camps for women. She inaugurated a mega awareness camp from KG Resorts. The cabinet minister asserted that starting from Malout, these camps will be organised across the state to make the women aware of the health, hygiene and employment opportunities.
The minister said that apart from women and child development and social security departments, the services of employment generation, skill development, health and family welfare, rural development and local government departments will also be provided to the people who are in need at the camps.
Dr Kaur added that women can avail services that will include free screening for medicine, ortho, gynaecology, eye, ENT, blood pressure checks, diabetes tests, anaemia assessments and distribution of medicines. She said women will also be educated on contraceptive methods, family planning, urinary tract infections (UTIs), menstrual hygiene and adolescent health apart from their legal rights.
Offering an opportunity to the self help groups (SHGs) exclusively run by the females through these camps, she said that they can showcase and sell their products. She added that every possible assistance will be provided to the women by the Punjab government to uplift their standard of living and provide better employment opportunities.
At least 500 girls registered themselves at the help desk of District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises out of which 295 got selected and more than 72 were handed over offer letters during the camp. Apart from this, meritorious girl students of Sri Muktsar Sahib district were also felicitated with cash prizes.
