Bengaluru cab driver arrested for allegedly raping woman passenger

A cab driver, who allegedly raped a woman passenger in the vehicle between 3 am to 4 am, was arrested early on Wednesday, the police said.

The complainant, who belongs to Jharkhand, had booked the cab from HSR Layout to Murugesh Palya. According to the police, the woman alleged that the driver allegedly locked the car door on reaching the destination and raped her before pushing her out of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the driver, who belongs to Andhra Pradesh, refuted the charge, said the police. Both the accused and the woman were subjected to a medical examination.

According to a report in a leading daily, Additional Commissioner of Police (East) S Murugan said a case of rape under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code had been registered by the police. “We acted swiftly upon the complaint and arrested the accused. He is from Andhra Pradesh. We are questioning him thoroughly,” he said.
